hey dude ive been test running the mega raise shove trick you mentioned in the previous post and its a FOOoookin godsend, ive been raking it in (so far). really is amazing how many uncontested pots im picking up and what they're calling with when they do grow some stones.

cheers.

p.s what is the short stack soldiers blog all about anyway? can i read it?

luv ya

I would say that is the same dude, but we can tell which one is jaded and which one has an ounce of creativity. That was lame.

@ knockoffneil

Awesome! Just remember not to get carried away with it. It is working now since you are picking spots with it, but I have found that as soon as you make a winning play "policy" it fails to achieve the same results. I also should have mentioned that it works best for hands that aren't good enough to play a "large stack" (in relation to the pot size) but are too good to shove all in with.

The soldiers blog is for hand history posting and commentary for students or those who have purchased my hand charts. You might want to look into it. :)

Got a situation that only you guys can answer. You wake up to a good hand 1010,jj AK. There's a raise, and a guy from middle position reraises (making it about 10bbs), but not just a guy, that guy (you have over a thousand hands on him plays, like 4% of his hands rarely rereaises etc...).

For the most part you know his range 1010 + and AK, maybe (but rarely) aq. So where are you at with hands like QQ JJ 1010, a small percentage you are dominating him, but at best you are flipping or dominated (based on his play) and with AK at best you are a flip or tied (AK) but quite possibly dominated.

Obviously, shortstacking needs to take advantage of the very good hands but I'm sure you've encountered similar situations with that super tight guy. Do you push it, or live to fight anther day?

Oh and liked the megabet/push article, that point about awkard stack size after a normal raise and all is something I noticed, I intend to give it a whirl in the situations you described.

Thanks for the time.

This is a no-contest, but I think you are interested in the hard numbers here, so here is what I have:

$1/2 game
5% rake capped at $3
Effective stack size of 20BB
Early raiser has standard open range of top 8%, 88+, AKs, AKo, KQs, and KQo

MP: Liberally re-raising top 3% of hands: TT+, AK. His re-raise is treated as an all in bet.

You are on the button and assume that both the SB and BB are now only over-calling 3 raisers with QQ+, AKs (once again liberal, for arguments sake)

With the action behind, UTG is only calling JJ+, AKo, AKs.

Even in this highly optimistic scenario, this is what you get:

TT: -$10.74
JJ: -$4.26
AKo: -$9.08
AKs: -$5.25

You would need at least QQ (+$3.10) to call in this dream scenario, but in all situations like this, I am only playing KK and AA here.

Thank you again you are the man. It doesn't happen often enough where I was freaking out, but a leaks a leak. Just wanted to get the opinion of the sensei.

i see what you mean about it being a play you could get carried away with as it is a fairly easy method of keeping your stack alive, exspecially SS'in 6 max which is what im trying out at the moment.

6 max has been going well so far, just wondered what your opinion is on SS'in it long term and if you think its as profitable as full ring? (could be worth a blog post perhaps)
